Yasmine El Baramawy – a musical introduction to the composer and activist

One of the most intense hours of my last Cairo stay were those two spent with Yasmine El Baramawy.

Yasmine has talked publicly about the group sexual violence she (and many other women) had experienced during a protest against president Morsi’s constitutional declaration in November 2012. Her experiences on and also after that day, as well as the brave TV appearance, have made her a well known activist in the field.

In the first place though, she is a composer and a musician. Therefore, let me introduce you to Yasmine through her playing the Oud.

More audio from the interview to be uploaded soon.
